Walkthrough

Hi, the following is a detailed version of the mini guide I posted before. If you are a skilled adventure player, please don't use it, or use the mini guide which will give you some clues but not the answers: https://the-icehouse.itch.io/boklin/devlog/823127/mini-guide

Walkthrough of Boklin: The Island of the Dead

After the introduction, walk to the portal in front of you and note the roman numbers written on it.

Read the letter. There is an important clue in it: !YAY!

After reading the letter, the coffin in the boat opens. If you click on it, you will go to sleep in it. It corresponds to the "surrender" part of the narrative, which leads to a game over.

If you choose the game over way, you can retry just after to fullfill your mission on the island.

You can now explore the island and try to get more familiar with it.

Walk to the left (when facing the portal), climb the stairs. There are 5 doors, they all teleport you outside if you try to enter the room.

Above the doors you can read: This could be your last DAY!, where the word DAY! is spelled so that there is a single character over each door. The door on the left can thus be indentifed as door D, the next one as door A, and so on.

You found before the clue !YAY! on the letter. Now simply enter the doors following the given order: first door !, then door Y, then door A, then door Y again, and finally door !. That should desactivate the teleporter and allow you to enter the room.

Explore the room. There are 4 generators. The kind of golden lunette device outside is plugged to them. So if you turn on the generators, it is likely that this device will be activated.

To turn on the 4 generators, you need to read the letter that is located just next to the door "!". That will explain you that you cannot turn them on in simply any order. Finding the correct order will require a bit of maths because some of the values are given in Base 3. In order to learn how to convert between base 10 and base 3, you should read the letter on a wall at the temple, on the opposite side of the island.

The letter says: Generator 1 adds 101 units, G2 adds 1000, G3 adds 1210 and Generator 4 adds 211. Once you've learned conversion base 3 <-> base 10, you get the following equivalent: G1 adds 10 'MV', G2 adds 27, G3 adds 48 and G4 adds 22.

The message also says that there is a surge if the power of the first 3 generators activated exceeds 60MV. But that the minimum power required to turn on the 3rd generator has to be 48MV. So in other words, whatever you choose to turn on first and second, the total value should be located between 48 and 60 for the 3rd generator.

That gives the following possibility: turn on Generators 1 and 4 (the lowest values) which results in a total of 32MV. Then if you turn on Generator 3 of 48MV, you will exceed the limit of 60MV! So choose Generator 2 as the 3rd choice. You add 27MV, which brings the total to 59MV. That doesn't exceed 60 but is more than 48. Finally you can turn on the 4th generator: Generator 3.

Long things short, turn on Generator 1, Generator 4, Generator 2, and finally Generator 3.

The funny "laser" device outside is now turned on. Before you leave the current room, take a look at the large poster on the wall with a plan of the temple. note the position of the columns.

Go to the temple where the columns are now lit in colors. If you look at the paper with the suite of digits from 0 to 9, you will see the same coloring on them. --> This color code should allow you to assign a number from 0 to 9 to each column.

There are 2 ranges of 5 columns. On the first range (near the stairs), the first column near the top of the stairs is thus number 3. The one next to it is number 9, then number 1, then 7 and finally 2.

On the other range of columns, reading them in the same direction, the first column is 0, then the next one is 4, then 8, then 6 and finally 5.

Now that you have correctly placed these numbers, you can also place roman numbers from the plan you found before. Assign a roman number to each of the columns. That should let you know that: column numbered 3 is I, column number 9 is IV, and so on. You should get the following list of equivalents:

3 I, 9 IV, 1 VIII, 7 X, 2 VI, 0 III, 4 IX, 8 VII, 6 II, 5 V.

You also found, at the beginning of the game, a code on the portal, remember? VIII, III, IV, VI and I. Convert the roman numbers using the digits you found, and it gives you this code: 10923.

Enter the code on the device of the temple and the portal should ignite! Enjoy the end of the game. Thanks for playing Boklin!
